Last summertime, my family took a road trip out to the enjoyable American southwest… If you really stop to consider the factors, it wasn’t our best decision to venture out to the hottest area of the country in the hottest season of the year, especially when we are accustomed to snow flurries and freezing temperatures. However, the people I was with and I were happy to experience something new and this gave us more time for the road trip than the winter months would have allowed. About four hours into driving, the a/c in the automobile stopped working. My family tried to make the most of the situation by driving with the windows down, but it soon started to pour. We were forced to roll up the windows, and the car quickly became hot and stuffy. At a gas station, my husband and I were discussing a plan to deal with the broken air conditioner for the rest of the trip when another customer overheard. He said that he formerly worked for a heating and cooling company. He laughed when he heard that we were headed into even more heat, and he offered to perform a quick fix himself. All he wanted in return was a case of beer. Being that we were out of options, we decided to give it a shot. What did we have to lose? Using parts from the gas station, he fashioned just what we needed and stuck it together with some gum and an old sock. “How’s that for a/c service!” he shouted, hot as a oil furnace after the six-pack. And sincerely, the repair worked great. We didn’t even realize until the weather cooled down in the fall that our heating was not working! My husband had to call the Heating & Air Conditioning provider and get a whole new furnace upgrade. Turns out he had dismantled the furnace for parts to repair the air conditioning. Those Southerners!
